Hyuuga Neji: whirling light bulb

Description

Behold, the soft spoken genius of the Hyuuga

--------------
Whirling light bulb: Because his name also means whirl, his eyes are like light bulbs and when he does the kaiten he looks like a whirling light bulb....SHOT

...It's kind of amazing how I managed to make him look nothing like Neji. But if I imagine him realistically, he would definitely have some so-called 'feminine' features (I think most of us thought he was a girl when he first appeared in the manga) that may include some cheek and fuller lips, but with very defined eyes, characteristic of the Hyuuga.

Ahh, Neji. I do like him. From his first appearance. For being an arrogant bastard, hmm yes. Neji does arrogance really well. (He has mellowed a lot but is still awesome). Also he's got a really classy fighting style. The gentle fist is used by all of Hyuuga, but only when it is used by Neji does it become classy shot.

Please if you could give advise on how to improve this artwork even more, I would really appreciate it! I realise I am not so good at portraits (I always get the face balance wrong) so any constructive pointers would be great <3

Will do portrait paintings of the Uchiha bros next! Sasuke has been way too adorable for his own good in the manga, I am a very happy fan indeed. Well, the Uchiha bros are definitely a very cute pair of bros.

Before people start panicking: The curse seal on his forehead is from the manga version. It is the Buddha symbol of good luck and protection.

Was listening to this song a lot while painting: [link] (Kyukon by The Yellow Monkey). The lyrics have nothing in common with Neji, but I've always thought songs like this suit Neji's image really well  And ahhhh those emotional last 2 minutes of the song...bliss.

I will start off by saying how refreshing it is to have Neji portrayed in a different style and in a different medium than I usually see him in. It is rare to see traditional media used in what appears to be a professional manner and I love it when it shows up in my inbox. To put your thoughts at ease, I could tell this was Neji from the tiny thumbnail in my inbox, so it does look like him.

That being said, I will also admit that I'm extremely biased as I love watercolors and I love Neji Hyuuga, so naturally I am going to most likely love what you've done. And I do. Your interpretation is spot on. Feminine, but clearly male all the same is a hard thing to express and you've done it well. Especially with those eyes. Those eyes could pierce your very soul and that's what Hyuuga eyes should look like.

For the few negatives this piece has, I would have to say the eyelashes are one of them, particularly on the eye closest to the viewer. The colors are a little dark and looks more like cheap mascara than natural lashes. The other would have to be the lips. Now, I know what you were going for, but it seems like a little much, even by a woman's standard. A little thinner, with a dab less shine would do wonders in my opinion.

Now, the hair is a bit of a conflict for me. Part of me really likes it and doesn't want you to change a thing, particularly on the part farthest from the viewer. The other part of me says it looks stiff and unnatural. Honestly, I'm not sure which I'm leaning towards, if that makes sense.

The seal on his forehead though? Perfect. You've got it. And that dab of blue you've got in there? Also a very nice touch. <3

Again, I state how refreshing it is to see watercolor work in the Naruto fandom and you've done very well here, as well as in the rest of your gallery. You've got talent to spare.
